How AI Scores Your Photos: A Deep Dive
Every photo uploaded to PhotoPicker is analyzed by AI. But what exactly does the AI look at?
The Four Pillars of Photo Quality
Our scoring system evaluates four key aspects of every photo.
1. Composition
The AI evaluates how elements are arranged in the frame. It looks for the rule of thirds, leading lines, symmetry, and overall balance.
2. Exposure
The model checks for blown highlights, crushed shadows, and overall tonal balance while accounting for intentional style choices.
3. Focus and Sharpness
Sharp focus on the subject is critical. The AI detects motion blur, missed focus, and depth of field intent.
4. Aesthetics
Aesthetic score captures color harmony, mood, and overall visual impact that makes a photo stand out.
The Scoring Scale
- S Tier (85-100): Portfolio-worthy shots
- A Tier (70-84): Strong photos worth keeping
- B Tier (50-69): Acceptable but not standout
- C Tier (0-49): Below average, consider removing
Natural Language Feedback
PhotoPicker also provides written feedback so you understand exactly why each photo scored the way it did.
